Compare
Platinum Ring Prices:
The only way to compare is to know the 'Gram
Weight' of the platinum
wedding
band you are looking at. This is a easy
comparison. If you don't know the weight then the 'Width'
and 'Thickness' will help. I list all three for
every platinum
ring I sell. For example you will find that my Light
Weight wedding rings are as Heavy and Thick as most other stores
regular weight rings. You must compare Weight, Width and
Thickness.
Many try to sell Palladium as a Platinum Look a Like. It
looks like platinum but is not Platinum. It is in the
Platinum Metal Group but the value is less than 14K white
gold at the current spot metal price making it a great
value. It is slightly lighter in weight than 14K gold but sells at much higher
prices in many retail jewelry stores.
I have it
available by special order if you like.
If you want White Metal but Platinum is out
of reach
950 Palladium is a better value than 14K
White Gold.
Another gimmick is Karat platinum....platinum
mixed with so much alloy it cannot legally be called
Platinum...thus the Karat name is applied.
Just stay away
from anyone selling low quality metal mixes..
Alloys: The standard for platinum wedding bands is 950
platinum. This is 95% platinum and 5% alloy. The best
all around alloy is Ruthenium. Cobalt is another option
and is usually used in cast
pieces. Iridium is another choice but due to its
softness it is not a great choice for 950 wedding bands.
It is just too soft at a 5% mix.
Weights:
I have 3 different weights listed for my Comfort fit Wedding Bands. They all have a
rounded top and rounded inner edge. Of course the photos
don't show the details. The Heavy Weight Bands
are a higher dome with a more defined "rounded
inner edge". The Regular Weight is a
perfect mix of dome height and roundness. The Light
Weight are still top quality and made for those
who want a less bulky ring.
My prices are like having a Sale every day
of the week.
